RMS QUEEN MARY

THE FIRST GREAT QUEEN
The first of Cunard’s legendary ‘Queens’, Queen Mary would go on to dutifully serve her part in the Second World War, ferrying a staggering number of troops to war-torn Europe. Post-war she remained a glamour icon and a firm favourite of the transatlantic route, outlasting many rivals. She had held the Blue Riband for close to 15 years; she had been the home of legendary captains and commodores, the haunt of socialites, celebrities and great minds. Queen Mary is many things to many people and it is my privilege to depict her in all her glory.

Following in the footsteps of great Cunarders before her, Queen Mary was constructed at John Brown and Co, Clydebank; an immense undertaking and one which was almost doomed due to the Depression. What Scottish hands built would go on to become a cherished icon of Britain as a whole, a symbol of maritime excellence.
