Tanjil was built on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia in 1877 to ferry passengers to Gippsland. After nearly a decade of faithful service she was unfortunately destroyed by a blaze in 1885.

This illustration of 'Tanjil' was completed over the course of one week in December 2018 by Michael C Brady and involved around 20 hours of drawing. High-definition photographs were studied in order to maintain authenticity.

Tanjil’s foremast featured a sail which could help the little ship, in conjunction with here engine, achieve 12 knots in a stiff breeze.
Tanjil’s paddle wheel was driven by an engine rated at around 100 horesepower.
