In 1983 Chandris Lines acquired Lloyd Triestino's Galileo Galilei, a superb liner with unmistakably Italian lines. The purchase was a good one; Chandris found themselves in possession of a very fine sea-going ship already converted to cruiseship duties. Renamed to simply 'Galileo', she operated with the line until 1997 after undergoing a major refurbishment and rebuild in 1989.
